I was called in on a Sunday to work at the jail, to lead a worship service. I had changed my schedule to have Sundays off. The person who usually does the service had to take a leave of absence. So, I went in, and to my amazement it appeared only one person wanted to attend. The other ladies were enjoying television.
I was a little upset. That ego talk inside began, "Here, I come out of my way to offer this, and these ladies do not even care enough to say goodbye to a TV for a short time."
The one lady who attended, could see I was frustrated. She and I had enjoyed a positive sharing on a number of occasions. She said, "But I'm here, and I'm important." And that struck me. I smiled, and I said, "You're right." We began the service in silence, and just then two others came. We four had an enjoyable sharing for about two hours.

For many years now I have invested a lot of energy and time in online and offline work. I find I always have a small following, while I see others gather a large following with what appears to me often less substantial, insightful, and quality work. I do understand that most person prefer a lite diet, but I do not offer that. I see that means I will get less a following than offering the latest feel-good faddish, fast-food "spirituality lite."
But when working from the Self, not the ego - body-mind - that is not a problem. When we devote our work to Spirit, for a higher Purpose, we engage it as worship and devotion. We do not think of how many will be blessed by it. Like the woman at chapel service that day, one person matters, and matters infinitely and eternally.
